Ailie M. Johnson, 97, longtime Oulu area resident, died Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Villa Marina Health & Rehabilitation Center in Superior. She was born on December 20, 1920 in Waino, WI to Edward and Martha (Mattson) Koski.
She graduated from Waino High School, Waino, WI. She married Arne W. Johnson and they celebrated fifty-six years of marriage before his passing. Ailie was a homemaker who enjoyed baking (especially her homemade whole wheat bread) and cooking. Food was always provided when you came for a visit. She loved being a mother, grandmother and wife. She loved to play the accordion with her husband Walt who played the drums and sang at special events. They also recorded two albums. Ailie previously worked at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center as a CNA.
Ailie is survived by one daughter, Diana (Gary) Tyykila, Brule, WI; one son, Randy (Julie) Johnson, Iron River, WI; two daughters-in-law, Kaye Johnson, Iron River, WI and Doris Johnson, Wauwatosa, WI; ten grandchildren, Craig Johnson, Iron River, WI, Carla Jo (Dale) Armbruster, Iron River, WI, Scott E. (Michelle) Johnson, Iron River, WI, Julie (Juan) Rodriguez, Fernley, NV, Darrin (Annette) Johnson, Hawthorne, WI, Chris Johnson, Port Wing, WI, Jeremie (Amy) Johnson, Green Bay, WI, Tina (James) Koplinski, Greenfield, WI, Becky Lou (Curt) Prusko, Wauwatosa, WI and Scott R. Johnson, Iron River, WI, seventeen great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank “Fran” Koski, Brule, WI and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arne “Walt” Johnson, sons, Larry and Ronald “Cook”, grandson, Michael Johnson, two great-grandsons, Juan Daniel Rodriguez and Micah Everett Johnson and two brothers, Elmer and Ray Koski.
A gathering of family, relatives and friends will to celebrate her life of love, laughter and music from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Hope Lutheran Church in Oulu and continue until the 11:00 AM memorial service with Pastor Scott Stai officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Ailie’s grandchildren will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.
