Albert Schafter, 91, died on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at St. Francis in the Park. Al was born November, 27, 1918 in Phillips, WI. At a very early age his family moved to Superior where he lived the rest of his life.
Al was educated in Superior, graduating from Superior Central in 1936. During World War II, Al served with the United States Army in Europe earning the rank of sergeant. After the war he returned to Superior and his job with the Great Northern Railroad. Al retired in 1982 from the Burlington Northern with over forty years of service in the car shops.
Al was married for fifty years to Dorothy (Dottie) Dahl until her death in 2004. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Nelson of De Pere, WI and a brother Lawrence Schafter, of Superior.
He is survived by a sister Rilla Quinlan of Newberry, MI, and a brother James Schafter, of Superior as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Francis for their care and concern, especially Georgia, Jen, Jana, and Joe.
Al’s kind, gentle spirit and sly grin will be missed, but it’s comforting to know at this very moment Al and Dorothy are dancing together forever.
