Alexander "Alex" E. Orlowski

July 5, 1922 — March 10, 2015

Alexander “Alex” E. Orlowski, 92, Superior, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. He was born on July 5, 1922 in Duluth to Constantine and Stephania (Janovick) Orlowski.

He graduated from Morgan Park High School in Duluth in 1941 and attended Smith-Hughes Trade School from 1939 to 1941.

He served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946 during World War II.

Alex married June Mann on June 15, 1946 in South Portland, Maine and celebrated 65 years of marriage before she passed away on October 2, 2011.

He was employed with Mielke Electric and Westinghouse Electric retiring in 1987 with over 30 years of being an electrician.

Alex was a member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church, a life member of the Iron River VFW Post #10197, life member of the Iron River American Legion Post #506; a life member of the DAV Chapter 4 in Superior and the Douglas County Senior Center. He liked gardening, playing cribbage, collecting coins, fishing, polka music and the occasional trip to the casino.

Alex is survived by nine daughters, Linda Ruska, Marie Godfrey, Patty (Tom) O’Connell, Collette (Paul) Van Hove, Mary (Gordy) Laakso, Theresa Banick, Michelle (Bruce) Berg, Cheryl (Dave) Beetcher, Dawn (Guy) Moen; one son, Mike Orlowski; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim (JoAnne) Orlowski and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Mildred, Alex is preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Vogt, a great-grandson, Evan P. Crotser; his parents; five brothers, two sisters and a son-in-law, Dennis Godfrey.

Visitation will begin at 12 noon and will continue until the 2:00 PM Memorial Mass on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Holy Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Ronald Olson, as celebrant.

Military honors will be accorded by the Iron River VFW Post #10197.

Burial will be in Veteran’s Memorial Park at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, at a later date.

Pallbearers for the service will be Alex’s sons-in-law and grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be his cribbage friends from the Senior Center.
