Alfred G. “Al” Hope, 75, lifelong Superior resident, died peacefully, Wednesday, September 10, 2019, at his home. He was born in Superior, September 11, 1943, the son of and Eugene and Anita (Otto) Leonard. He was adopted at a young age and by Glen Hope.
Al was a graduate of Superior’s East High School class of 1961.
He served his country honorably in the United States Navy as a radar specialist on a minesweeper during Vietnam.
Al excelled in several fields of study. He held several bachelors and master’s degrees. He was employed with Murphy Old for many years, and also taught Electrical Engineering and Architectural Design at WITC.
He was an avid racing fan and, in his younger years, could often be found in the stands or in a race car, and most currently he could be found pitting for Anderson racing. He traveled all over the world and across the country where he could be found at the local race tracks.
He is survived by his daughter, Danyelle “Danni” Hope, Superior, WI; grandchildren, Sir Daniel Vincent Lord and Brenna Marie Steinbring, both of Superior, WI; sister, Patricia (Duane) Hope-Johnson, Hudson, WI; brothers, Martin (Cathy) Hope, of Costa Rica, and Glen (Kathy) Hope, South Range, WI; special Aunt, Erma Harty, South Range, WI; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Al’s life will be from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 28, 2019, at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 th Street, Superior, with a Service of Remembrance to begin at 1:00 PM.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
