Alice I. Mattson, 91, passed peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior, WI. She was born January 20, 1934, in Lawler, MN, the daughter of Victor and Mary (Maki) Luoma.
Alice married Melvin R. Mattson on January 9, 1954, and they celebrated 67 years together before his passing in September of 2021.
Alice graduated from Cromwell High School in 1952. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Alice was an avid bowler and a member of the Superior Women’s Bowling Association. She took great pleasure in creating a warm and loving home for her family. She enjoyed traveling with Melvin in supporting her children’s and grandchildren’s various sports and activities. Alice’s great grandchildren gave her great pleasure and joy later in life.
She took pride in joining Melvin supporting and honoring our troops through the American Legion and VFW. Traveling the Great Lakes with her husband was one of her many joys in life. Most of all, she loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Alice is survived by her children: Melvin (JoAnn) Mattson, Superior, and Todd (Allyson) Mattson, Coon Rapids, MN; grandchildren: Bryan (Kristina) Mattson, Superior, Ian (Kaylyn) Mattson, Superior, Andrew (Elyse) Mattson, Jacksonville, NC, Alyssa (Casey) Schwan, Woodbury, MN, Ashley (Karl) Reinke, Cottage Grove, MN, Alex (Johanna) Spehar, Minneapolis, MN, David (Kelsey) Mattson, Somerville, MA, Michelle Mattson, Sun Prairie, WI; great-grandchildren Ella, Mila, Kyla, Parker, Susan, Adelyn, Alexandra, Isabella, Sofia, Charlie, and Sophie; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin; daughter Susan Spehar; sisters Agnes and Aune; and brothers Arnie, Arvid and Art.
The family would like to thank the staff at Villa Marina and Dr. Kleinschmidt for their exceptional and compassionate care of Alice.
The family is planning a private service at a later date.
