Alice May Watland, resident of Superior Rehabilitation and Nursing Center
passed away on September 9, 2015.
She was born on August 7, 1915 at Mazeppa, MN to William and Ida (Jones) Cross.
Alice attended a rural school nearby for eight years. In young adulthood she moved to Seeley, WI with her parents. She did laundry and housework for families around the area before being married.
Alice married Alfred A. Watland in Hayward, WI on January 6, 1937. To this marriage one son and one daughter were born. In early years of her marriage she cooked at Phipps School where she was well known for her delicious Graham bread.
After moving to various towns, they settled in Superior, WI in 1953. Shortly after moving, she worked in laundries in Superior and Duluth, MN.
After retirement they spent winters in Harlingen, TX from 1977 to 1999.
She enjoyed rummage sales, collecting clocks, traveling, watching NASCAR racing and most of all she enjoyed family and relatives.
Alice is survived by her son, Alfred (Shirley) Watland of Castlewood, SD; son-in-law, Donald (Ina) Corbin, of Superior, WI; grandchildren, Jerry (Lori) Kiihl and Sherri (Colin) Tonner of Castlewood, SD; Sue (Duane) Quandt of Lakeville, MN; Scott (Linda) Corbin of Superior, WI; Mark (Pat) Corbin of Minneapolis, MN; Bradley (Toni) Corbin of Solon Springs, WI; and Bruce Corbin of Superior, WI.
She is also survived by fifteen great grandchildren and three great - great grandchildren.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred, daughter Shirley Corbin, three sisters and four brothers, several nieces and nephews and other family.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Monday, September 14, 2015 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home and continue until the 10:00 AM Funeral Service with Pastor Sarah Kerkes, of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Superior, officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
Pallbearers for the service will be Mark Corbin, Brad Corbin, Bruce Corbin, Grant Quandt, Colin Tonner, Duane Quandt and Jerry Kiihl. Honorary pallbearer will be Scott Corbin.
The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
