Alistair Jay, "A.J." Conley, Town of Oakland, beloved five year old son of Jay and Allison Conley, was born into eternal life with Our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 31, 2015. Although he passed away quite unexpectedly, he died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family.
A.J. was born in Duluth, MN on January 8, 2010.
Born the third of five children, he enjoyed the company of his siblings and they were always together. He loved being outdoors, planting trees and vegetable gardens and watching them grow. He delighted in working with his hands and building things at his Grandpa's lumber yard. He had a heart of gold and found his greatest joys in serving others. Even at a very young age, it was clear that he was both a doer and a giver, never expecting anything from others in return.
A.J. was his Dad's favorite little apprentice in the kitchen, and he was becoming an amazing little cook. He delighted in serving up homemade dishes to his family, always watching for their reaction. He was his Mom's pride and joy and she treasured each day that they spent going on adventures to area State Parks and to the beaches of Lake Superior. A.J. especially loved the Cornucopia and Siskiwit Falls area.
A.J. was a pure joy to be around, and the light he brought to the world was felt everywhere he would go. He was a true gift from God, and though his time here on earth was brief, he taught us all many lessons about the true meaning of love, what it means to be patient and tolerant. And most of all, he reaped the rewards only a great giver could.
Alistair loved God, and he attended CCD classes at Cathedral of Christ The King Catholic Church. He was a student at Four Corners Elementary where he was in Kindergarten. He was motivated to work hard to earn Falcon tickets as an incentive for positive behavior choices. He was a friend to all, and his contagious smile is something we will always cherish.
In addition to his parents, Jay and Allison, A.J. is survived by three brothers, Bennett, Miles, and Xavier Conley, one sister, Violet Conley; his special dog Abraham; his maternal grandmother Monica Tikkanen, Superior; maternal grandfather Rudy Tikkanen of Boaz, AL; paternal grandparents, Jim and Mary Lou Conley of South Range, WI; maternal great-grandparents Jack and Ruth Gallagher, Superior; paternal great-grandfather, Ernest Gronroos, Bennett, WI; special great grandparents Bud and Ruie Carlson, Superior and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother Sigrid Gronroos, and an aunt, Kathryn Conley.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.
Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
