Allen J. St. Marie

Allen J. St. Marie, 88, longtime Superior resident, died Monday, September 27, 2010 at St. Francis in the Park in Superior.

He was born on May 16, 1922 in International Falls, MN to Joseph and Ruth (Priem) St. Marie.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

Allen worked construction as a bricklayer for twenty-six years and retired as a diesel mechanic from Midwest Energy in 1985.
He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and a former member of the Bricklayers Union and ILA 1000.

Al enjoyed fishing especially on the Gunflint Trail, hunting, trapping, gardening and camping in Menahga, MN. He also enjoyed bowling for Midwest Energy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Ellen who died on September 6, 1999, sisters Doris Howe, Lorraine Berger and Shirley Pasco and a great-grandson, Elijah James St. Marie.

Allen is survived by daughter, Bonnie (Gary) Pauna, Superior, WI; son, James (Debi) St. Marie, Poplar, WI; brother, Tom (Claudia) Sawyer, Superior, WI; grandchildren, Christina St. Marie, Duluth, MN, Christopher St. Marie, South Range, WI, Mark (Michelle) Pauna and Robert Pauna, both of Superior, WI.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, September 29, 2010 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior. Visitation will resume at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap Street, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Rev. Mark Hillmer officiating.

Inurnment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Christoper St. Marie, Robert and Mark Pauna, Michael and Darrell Mattson and Gary Olson.
Military honors will be accorded by Duluth Combined Honor Guard.
