Alvin Wigfall, 64, longtime Superior resident, died Friday, April 9, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born in East St. Louis, IL on September 27, 1956, the son of Robert and Beatrice (Price) Wigfall, Sr.
He graduated high school and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Al dedicated twenty-five years working as a conductor for Canadian National Railway and was a member of the Railroad Union. He was united in marriage to Melissa Brown, July 29, 2005 and they celebrated fifteen years of marriage before his passing.
He loved playing softball, football, and basketball and was a sports enthusiast. He especially enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals. Above all, Al was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and his kids and grandkids were his whole world. He was a gentle giant and a great person to be around, and will be dearly missed by all who loved him!
He is survived by his beloved wife, Melissa Wigfall, Superior, WI; sons, Kevin (Ruby) Wehmeyer, Stanley, WI, Alvin Wigfall Jr., Superior, WI, and Amaŕe Wigfall, Superior, WI; daughters Jordan (Alan Grimsrud) Wigfall, and Jaelyn Wigfall, both of Superior, WI; grandchildren, Zachary Brown Jr. and Amarra Grimsrud, of Superior, WI, and Nathan and Jaxon Wehmeyer, Stanley, WI; brothers, Robert Wigfall Jr., Clarence Wigfall, Kevin Wigfall Sr., Lawrence Wigfall, and Wilfred (Genell) Wigfall; sisters, Evelyn Wigfall-Mason, and Darline (Gaylin) Huggins; twenty-six nieces and nephews; a host of great-nieces and nephews; three great-great-nieces and nephews; father-in-law, Jeff Koch; sister-in-law, Melanie Brown; and brothers-in-law, Brad Draper, and Dave (Jody) Draper. He is preceded in death by his son, Zachary Brown; his parents; and mother-in-law, Corrine Koch.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Sue Patnaude, Mandy DeFoe, Jacqueline Hartwig, and others for their kind compassionate care they provided to Melissa and family during this difficult time.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior, and will continue until the 1:00 PM Funeral Service with Pastor Mark Wagenschutz officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Superior.
