Amanda Theresa Tamillo

Amanda Theresa Tamillo (Olsen), 35, lifelong area resident, died unexpectedly of a probable brain aneurysm on Thursday, June 18, 2020, surrounded by her family. Amanda was born in Duluth, MN, August 25, 1984, the daughter of Theresa A. Olsen.

She graduated from Denfeld High School in 2002 and went on to earn her Master’s degree in Social Work from the College of St. Scholastica in 2019.

Amanda married Gregory P. Tamillo on August 17, 2019, and they were soon to celebrate their first year of marriage.

Amanda was passionate about caring for and empowering others, so a career in social work was a natural fit for her. She held social work positions with St. Louis County for the last eight years, most recently as an Aging and Adult Disability Waiver Case Manager, and served a diverse client population, including those with mental illness; brain injury; and intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities. A straight-forward communicator, hard-worker, and attentive listener, Amanda was a strong advocate for her clients and helped them achieve wellness, independence, and autonomy. Amanda’s dedication to social work pushed her to take on additional projects and become involved with various committees over the years on top of her regular case load. Most recently she was involved with the Diversity Action Team through her work.

Her kindness was not limited to her work as a social worker. Outside of work, Amanda served as a devoted guardian to a vulnerable adult, and gave her heart to her family, friends, and her sweet dog, Maddie. Those who knew Amanda remember her to be strong, generous, incredibly funny and as someone who inspired others but abhorred attention and ceremony.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Greg Tamillo, Duluth, MN; mother, Theresa (Chuck Janovick) Olson, Duluth, MN; brother, Tyler (Erin) Osata, Minneapolis, MN; maternal grandparents, Warren (Sandra) Anderson, Cloquet, MN; sisters-in-law, Marquerite (William) Polanka, Rachelle West, and Dana (Joseph) Marciniak; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of Amanda’s life will be held on Saturday, July 11 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Buffalo Junction at the Buffalo House, 2590 Guss Rd., Duluth, MN.

Amanda will be forever missed by family, friends, co-workers, clients, and her dog, Maddie. In leu of flowers, Amanda’s family request that donations be made in Amanda’s memory to your charity of choice.
