Andrew 'Andy" Sablatura

Andrew “Andy” Sablatura, 90, lifelong Superior resident, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on August 25, 1924 in Superior to John and Josephine (Makusak) Sablatura.

Andy attended local schools and Wisconsin Indianhead Technical Institute.

He served a tour of duty in the United States Navy during World War II with the Asian U.S. 5 th Fleet in the South Pacific.

He was employed with many local firms such as Barko Hydraulics, sailed the Great Lakes from 1940 to 1958, Great Northern Railroad, Superwood, Great Lakes Storage, Reiss Coal Dock, Inland Coal Dock, Conway Bar, Berthiaume Marine Supply, Reserve Mining in Silver Bay, MN. Charles Grove Construction, Duluth, and was an engineer in the Superior School District for many years prior to his retirement from Cooper Elementary School on December 23, 1989.

Andy was a former member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and currently a member of Cathedral of Christ the King and a former member of the Superior Moose Lodge #606. He was an avid Packer fan and loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Mark) Dalbec, Superior, Patti (Pete) Larson, Superior; two grandchildren, Megan Dalbec, Stevens Point, WI, Forrest Dalbec, Superior; one brother, Thomas Sablatura, Superior; one special niece, Judy and several other nieces and nephews.

Andy was preceded in death by his wife Anna; his parents; five sisters, Elizabeth, Bernadette, Theresa, Josephine and Margaret Sablatura and one brother, John Sablatura.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with a Rosary Service conducted by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 1190 and will continue until the 12 Noon Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci, as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.

Andy’s family would like to thank Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center staff and Dr. George Holliday for the loving and compassionate care they showed Andy during his stay.
