Anna Louise (Hammer) Rasmussen

January 6, 1931 — January 8, 2020

Anna Louise (Hammer) Rasmussen, 89, Superior resident, died at home on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Anna “Ann” was born on January 6, 1931, in Superior, WI, at the home of her parents, Wilbur and Ida Hammer. Her two grandmothers were in attendance for her birth, and she was named after both of them, Anna and Louise.

Ann graduated from the former East High School. Her employment included working at the Sandstrom and Johnson Grocery Store in Central Park and for the Danish Bakery and Dr. John Lange, Sr. (DC), both in downtown Superior. It was at Dr. Lange’s office that she met her future husband, Dr. Arthur Rasmussen, whom she married on July 30, 1955, in Hibbing, MN, by her husband’s former Pastor and friend. They were married for almost 63 years before her husband’s passing on March 27, 2018. They lived their entire married life in the Rasmussen family home in South Superior.

During the early years of their marriage Ann did bookwork for the Superior branch of the United Cerebral Palsy. When her children were older, she went to work with her husband at Rasmussen Chiropractic in South Superior.

Ann was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in South Superior as well as a former choir member along with her husband.

Ann had a great talent for decorating and making things. She could knit, crochet, sew, paint, refurbish, and renovate. She was a woman of endless talents with a heart of gold. Her generosity was evident every Christmas with endless gifts for everyone. To know her was to love her. She will be truly missed.

Ann is survived by one daughter, Lynn Rasmussen, Superior, WI; and one son, Eric (Linette) Rasmussen, Sr., Foxboro, WI; three grandchildren, Amanda (James) Bailey, Superior, WI, Eric Rasmussen, Jr., Foxboro, WI, and Breanna (Chad) Austin, Mahtowa, MN; four great-grandchildren, James Eric, Connor William, Kenslie Marie, and Everett Arthur; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur; and infant daughter, Patti Ann; her sister, Ruby Chamberlain; and brothers, Donald and Herbert Hammer and their spouses; as well as three nephews, Richard Hammer, Donald Hammer, and Robert Chamberlain, Jr.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Essentia Health Hospice Program, particularly Ann’s nurse, Jeanne, and friend/niece, Nancy Anderson.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 5821 John Avenue, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Pastor Bridget Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Superior.

Pallbearers for the service will be Eric Rasmussen, Jr., Scott Udeen, Daniel Udeen, William Cich, James Bailey, and Chad Austin.
