Arne H. Boroo, 92, former South Range and Brule area resident, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. He was born in Brule, WI on December 13, 1916 to Charles and Hilma (Harju) Boroo.
He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II.
Arne married Jennie Ekstrom on October 15, 1938 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Duluth and celebrated seventy years of marriage.
He was employed as a grain miller foreman for the Archer Daniels Midland Grain Elevator.
Arne was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Oulu and the Boilermaker's Union associated with Butler Shipyards.
In addition to his wife Jennie, Arne is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Holmbeck, Cumberland, WI, Phyllis (Les) Neubauer, Brule; one son, Bryan (Linda) Boroo, Bennett, WI; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Aileen Bonior, Macomb, MI; three sisters-in-law, Tyne Ekstrom, Iron River, WI, Ida Kotilainen, Finland, Europe, Fannie Boroo, Clarkston, WA and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Boroo; his parents, two sisters, Elsie Boroo and a younger sister Elsa Irene in Finland; and four brothers, Hank, Sam, Tom and Art.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 in the Hope Lutheran Church in Oulu, WI. Pastor Scott Stai will officiate.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Oulu.
Pallbearers for the service will be Tom, Adam, Darren and Brandon Neubauer, Eric Boroo, Mike Cheng, Nick Skaggs and Ronald Holmbeck.
Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
