Dr. Arthur E. Rasmussen, 91, Superior resident, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. He was born on July 12, 1926 in Superior, WI to Arthur E. and Emily (Salveson) Rasmussen.
He graduated from Superior Central High School in 1944. He served his country during World War II. In 1948, he graduated from the University of Superior with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree and then continued his education at Logan Basic Chiropractic College in St. Louis, MO graduating in 1952 with Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Arthur continued his education with post-graduate studies at Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, IA and was licensed in Wisconsin, Missouri and Iowa. While pursuing his chiropractic studies he was employed as a chemist by McDonald Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis, MO. Upon completion of his boards, he returned to Superior and practiced with the late Dr. Herman Lange. Dr. Rasmussen received numerous awards during this time period for spinal correction. He eventually bought Dr. Lange’s practice, and in 1963 he opened a new chiropractic office in South Superior. He continued his practice until the time of his retirement in December of 1991.
Dr. Rasmussen married Anna Hammer on July 30, 1955 in Hibbing, MN and celebrated sixty-two years of marriage. He and his wife resided in South Superior throughout the years of their marriage. Dr. Rasmussen was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He held several positions including Sunday School teacher, usher, Brotherhood member/officer, choir member and church secretary/treasurer. Dr. Rasmussen had exceptional carpentry skills. Some of his projects included a playhouse for his grandchildren, doll houses for his two granddaughters, hunting blinds for his son/grandson and the designing/construction of a sixteen foot wooden row boat in his garage. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He also was a great World War II historian. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and always had a smile for everyone.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Anna; one daughter, Lynn Rasmussen, Superior, WI and one son, Eric (Linette) Rasmussen, Sr., Foxboro, WI; three grandchildren, Amanda (James) Bailey, Superior, WI, Eric Rasmussen, Jr., Foxboro, WI and Breanna (Chad) Austin, Carlton, MN; three great-grandchildren, James, Connor and Kenslie Marie and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Patti Ann and sister Joyce Udeen.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Bethel Lutheran Church and will continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Pastor Gary Garnatz officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Superior. Pallbearers for the service will be Eric Rasmussen, Jr., Scott Udeen, Daniel Udeen, William Cich, James Bailey and Chad Austin.
