Audrey Marie Hakkila (96), Poplar, WI, passed away on November 16, 2025 at Villa Marina Health Center in Superior, WI. Audrey was born on August 11, 1929 to Rueben and Hilda (Saari) Bloom in the town of Lakeside, WI. She was a lifelong resident of Poplar and graduated from Poplar High School.
Audrey worked as a Learner Aide for the Maple School District and then worked for Poplar Hardware Co. from which she retired. She was very active in the Village of Poplar, serving as the Village Treasurer for 32 years, as well as serving on the election board.
Audrey was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church (formerly Bethany Lutheran) serving as the Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, as well as serving on the Church Council and as the church historian. She enjoyed volunteering for the Rural Share & Care Food Shelf, ARCDC, RSVP program, the Amnicon Senior Center and its meal program and several other organizations. She was a Charter Member of the Old Brule Heritage Society and AAL Branch 6034.
Audrey enjoyed volunteering, reading, playing cards, needlework and traveling with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Iver Edquist in 1958; second husband, Ray Hakkila in 1981; her daughter, Jeanne M. Falk; and grandchildren, Dennis Ahola, Aaron Falk and Cindy Parks.
Audrey is survived by her daughters, Susan (Bob) Peer, Diane Davies, Laurel (Mark) LeSage and Cathy (Jack) Carlos; her son, Eddy (Sue) Edquist; sisters, Bernice Erickson and Marlene Johnson; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Visitation begins at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Peace Lutheran Church, 9523 US-2 in Poplar, and continues until the11:30 AM Memorial Service with Pastor Donna Rutten officiating. Interment will be at Poplar Cemetery.
A livestream of the funeral service will be available through Peace Lutheran Church’s Facebook page (Peace Lutheran Poplar) for those unable to attend in person.
