Barbara Jean Hapy, 92, longtime Superior resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Keystone Bluffs in Duluth, MN. She was born in Superior on March 30, 1931, the daughter of Roy and Violet (Nevile) LaFore.
Barbara spent most of her life in Superior, but growing up, her father worked for the railroad and the family spent some time in Minnesota, South Dakota, and California.
She was united in marriage to Donald Hapy on September 12, 1949, in the priest house at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Superior. They spent seventy-four wonderful years together.
Barbara was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Superior Garden Club. She was also a former member of the Superior Blue Line Club which supported youth hockey in the area and UWS hockey.
In her free time, Barbara loved to sew and garden. She also loved to travel and visited many amazing places. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Donald; son Paul Hapy; daughter Cathy (John Seternas) Hapy; grandchildren Michael Whitmore and Arielle Hapy; and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Violet; son Michael Hapy; and sister Laura LaFore.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Pat Glitsos and the staff at Encompass, Brandy and Noel from Essentia Hospice, and the staff at Keystone Bluffs in Duluth, for the wonderful care they provided Barbara.
A private family service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
