Barbara W. Mattson

Barbara W. Mattson, 84, Superior, WI resident, died Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. She was born on October 24, 1934 in Queens, NY to George “Mike” and Saima (Tamminen) Wastila.

She worked at National Bank of Commerce for forty-four years retiring in 1998. Barbara married Lowell Mattson and they celebrated forty-six years of marriage before his passing in July of 2002. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, P.E.O. and the Superior Jaycettes. She enjoyed spending time at the cabin, traveling and going to casinos.

Barbara is survived by one daughter, Deborah (Jeff) Schutts, Hudson, WI; two sons, Gregory (Sandy) Mattson, Superior, WI and Neil (Britta Kastens) Mattson, Baraboo, WI; six grandchildren, Jen (Mike) Lindahl, Tim Schutts, Shaun, Nicole, Cade and Colin Mattson; one brother, George Wastila, Jr., Coronado, CA; one sister, Naomi (Ivan) Otterness, Ledyard, CT and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Lowell and parents Mike and Saima.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Concordia Lutheran Church, 1708 John Avenue, Superior and continue until the 12:00 PM memorial service with Pastor Michelle Rowell officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Superior.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Superior Fire Department EMTs, emergency staff at Essentia and the New Perspectives Senior Living staff.
