Beatrice “Betty” A. Renko, 97, Superior, WI resident, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at home, peacefully surrounded by her family.
She was born on November 16, 1919 in Mellen, WI to George and Rose (Hoffestra) Eder.
Betty graduated from high school in Fort Francis, Ontario and from the nursing program in Miseracordia Hospital in Winnipeg.
She was an anesthestist for St. Mary’s Hospital for many years.
Betty married Eugene “Gene” Renko on January 9, 1946 in Cleveland, OH and they celebrated sixty-one years of marriage before his passing in December of 2007.
She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She also was a longtime member of the Bay Gardeners Club, Merry Widows Club and Alumni of “Miseracordia”. She served on the Parks & Rec. Board for eighteen years and was the volunteer of the year during Mayor Dave Ross’ term.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Mary Jane Grajeda, Wichita, KS; two granddaughters, Nichole (Rylee) Smith, Wichita, KS and Katherine “Katie” Barker, St Thomas, VI; two great-grandchildren, Maddee and Kohen Smith; one brother, George (Carol) Eder, Washburn, WI and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene J., son Eugene D. Renko in 2012, infant daughter Margaret Rose Renko, sisters Jane Ringersma and Rosemary Horak and brother William Eder.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and continue until the 12:00 PM Memorial Mass with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Superior.
The Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
