Bernice E. McGillis, 85, lifelong Superior resident, died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 29, 1929 in Superior, WI to John F. and Catherine (Guinane) McGillis.
Bernice graduated from the former Cathedral High School in 1947.
She was the credit manager for the Mariner Clinic formerly the East End Clinic and office manager for St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior for many years.
Bernice was a lifelong member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church. She also was a member of the Women’s International Credit Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Bernice is survived by one sister, Mary Harris, Hibbing, MN; one brother, Eugene “Gene” McGillis, Superior and Longboat Key, FL and thirty-two nieces and nephews and special friend, Florence Corey. "Auntie Bea" will be sadly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters Marjorie Rinker, an infant sister Jean, Donna Engberg and Grace Murray, two brothers John “Jake” and Patrick McGillis.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, 1111 Belknap Street, Superior and continue until the 12 Noon Memorial Mass with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci and Rev. Fr. Leon Flaherty will concelebrate.
Bernice’s nieces and nephews will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Bernice’s name to Cathedral School or Calvary Cemetery.
The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
