Bernice Olenski

Bernice Olenski, 95, Superior resident, died Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 6, 1919 in Superior, WI to William and Elizabeth (Sweeney) Bachand.

Bernice was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church and its Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court 1190 and St. Francis volunteer.
She loved knitting, crocheting, reading and playing video games on her nook. She enjoyed spending times with her grandchildren and attending their school and sports activities.

Bernice is survived by three daughters, Peggy (Mark) McCarthy, Superior, WI, Mary (Brad) Tafs, Hermantown, MN and Cathy (Donald) Williams, Foxboro, WI; two sons, Dennis (Kathy) Olenski, Hortonville, WI and William (Marcy) Olenski, Foxboro, WI, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren; one sister, Peggy (Paul) Werth, Elberta, AL; one sister-in-law, Helen Bachand, Superior, WI and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Chester Olenski, her parents, sister Louise Olens and brothers Stephen and Terrence Bachand.

The family would like to thank the staff at Villa Marina, Essentia and Solvay Hospice House for the wonderful care that Bernice was given.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Friday, October 17, 2014 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home at 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior where a 7:00 PM CDA rosary will be held. Visitation will resume on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church at 10:00 AM and continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.

Pallbearers for the service will be Michael Olenski, Donald, Mark and Brian McCarthy, Billy Tafs and Jacob Olenski.
