Bernice M. Pietila, 95, Superior, died peacefully Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN. She was born in Chicago, IL on January 8, 1917 to Alexander and Amelia (Kriesel) Fougere.
She was married to Wilbur Pietila on October 26, 1946 in Chicago who preceded her in death in 1995.
Bernice and her husband enjoyed many years as foster parents. She was fondly called “Aunt Bernie” by many. She loved dogs and had a fondness for all animals. She also enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, sewing and was an avid reader.
Bernice is survived by two daughters, Janice Pietila, Superior, Sonja Pearson, Buffalo Grove, IL; one son, Marc (Joan) Pietila, San Diego, CA; one granddaughter, Alissa (Aaron) Larsen, Superior; four great-grandchildren, Rachael Olson, Emma Larsen, Mason Larsen and Katie Borts.
A Time of Remembrance will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, June 15, 2012 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th St., Superior, WI with visitation one hour prior.
Burial will be in Ely, Minnesota.
The family wishes to thank the staff from the Solvay Hospice House who made Bernie’s last days happy, content and peaceful.
