Bertha C. Mott Stephens

Bertha Cordelia Mott Stephens, 101, Superior resident, died Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Superior, WI.

She was born on March 21, 1912 in Spartanburg, SC to Edward and Lula (Bell) Mott.

She is survived by her daughter, June Stephens, and her son, B.G. (Sandra) Stephens.

Bertha graduated from Spartanburg High School and Cecil’s Business College. She was a textile spinner, retiring from Spartanburg’s Milliken Research Company as an efficiency analyst.
She was an avid reader, and was especially a fan of mystery novels. She moved to Duluth (and later Superior) with her daughter in 2002.


In addition to her daughter and son, she leaves behind four grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, all of whom adored their “Nanny.”

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Bertha’s name to Animal Allies Humane Society, 2225 Hill Avenue, Superior, WI 54880.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in South Carolina.
