Betty Byrnes

Betty Byrnes, 81, Superior, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Attic Angel Healthcare Center in Madison, WI.

She was born on January 2, 1934 in Superior to Chester L. and Esther (Johnson) Johnson.

Betty was a graduate of Superior Public Schools and attended Superior State Teacher’s College for one year.

She was employed with Western Union, secretary and treasurer for Concordia Lutheran Church and then went on to be a secretary for Lutheran Social Services, from which she retired. She also served as the volunteer secretary and treasurer for Riverside Cemetery for 30 years.

Betty was a life member of Concordia Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Superior Women’s Bowling Association where she served as the president and she was an avid member of the St. Francis Travelers. She considered the members to be a very special and appreciated group of people.

She is survived by one sister, Carole (Alan) Bendtsen, Madison, WI; three nephews, James (Brenda) Bendtsen, Muskego, WI, Lee (Siri) Bendtsen, Stevens Point, WI, Daniel (Jurgita) Bendtsen, Lake Angelus, MI; three brothers-in-law, Harold Byrnes, Burnsville, MN, Allan “Bud” (Nancy) Byrnes, New Brighton, MN, Peter (Cindy) Byrnes, New Brighton, MN and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband James and her parents.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2015 and will continue at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Funeral Service on Saturday, March 14, 2015 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Gullicksrud, pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Betty’s family requests that donations be made to Concordia Lutheran Church.
