Betty Jean Hendershot

June 13, 1940 — January 26, 2019

Betty Jean Hendershot, 78, of Superior, WI, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN following a short illness. Betty was born in Grand Rapids, MN on June 13, 1940 to Virgil and Rhea (Lorentzen) Linn.

Betty was a member of the Moose Club and the Red Hat Ladies. Betty was a loving and hardworking mother. She worked various jobs to support her children from waiting tables and selling Avon where she received awards for the highest regional sales. Betty was a wonderful cook. She cooked at Roy and Dot’s Café in Floodwood, MN where people came from miles to enjoy her cooking. She continued to share her cooking at group homes and the Thunderbird House in Duluth where she retired.

Betty started her musical career at a young age. Her father played the accordion in polka bands where she picked up her musical talents. Betty was self taught. She could play numerous instruments and had a beautiful voice. Betty met the love of her life, Ray Hendershot whom she married. She joined the Ray Hendershot Trio and they performed in various venues. She also sang with Lorren Lindevig and Florian Chmielewski and at numerous country music festivals.

She is preceded in death by her parents, the love of her life husband Ray, brother Alvin Linn and granddaughters Jennelle Rahja and Krissa Loberg.

Betty is survived by her two children, Lori (Joe) McFarland, Pittsburg, KS and Kerry (Rose) Loberg, Superior, WI; stepchildren, Tracy (Duraine) Hendershot, Renae (Jim) Hendershot and Aaron (Jean) Potopinski; four grandchildren, Dalton Eckhoff, Lia and Summer Loberg and Magnolia Clark and her very special friend, Charlie Correll and many, many friends.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 th Street, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Pastor Victor St. George of Zion Lutheran Church officiating.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Betty’s name to the American Diabetes Association.
