Bill N. Johnston, 75, former longtime Superior resident, currently of Siren, WI, died Sunday, February 2, 2020 at North Memorial Health Center in Robbinsdale, MN. He was born in Clinton, IA, October 17, 1944, the son of Fred and Helen (Brown) Johnston.
He graduated from the form Central High School in Superior, in 1962, and graduated with his master’s of science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 1967.
Bill taught Chemistry and Biology at Duluth Central High School, retiring in 2001, and he owned and operated Siren Auction for many years. He was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Superior; the Siren Chamber of Commerce; and Burnette County Wisconsin Tourism. Additionally, he was Scout Master for Troop #202, in Superior for forty-five years, before retiring in 2012.
Bill had a passion for flea markets and sales, and it brought him great joy traveling to surrounding area markets. He was creative and artistically inclined, and enjoyed making lamps out of just about anything he could.
He is survived by his sister, Linda (Earl) Schoen, Philadelphia, PA; and nieces and nephews, Earl G. (Brittany) Schoen III, and their daughter, Caroline, all from Scottsville, VA, Elizabeth G. (Michael) Swavola, Brooklyn, NY, and Eric G. (Cherice) Schoen, Prescott, WI.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and aunts and uncles.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 8, 2020 at United Presbyterian Church, 229 N. 28 th Street, Superior, and will continue until the 12:00 PM memorial service with Rev. Brett Foote officiating.
In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorials may be made in Bill’s name to United Presbyterian Church.
