Brian D. Tokar

Brian Dale Tokar, 64, resident of Poplar, WI, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Essentia Health St Mary’s in Duluth with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 16, 1959, in Superior, WI, the son of John and Mary Lou (Botten) Tokar.

Growing up in Billings Park, he was a graduate of Superior Senior High School. Brian spent most of his career working on the waterfront at Peavy Grain Elevator in Superior, WI. As he gained more seniority, his co-workers lovingly called him “Old Yeller” thanks to his boisterous voice when working together.

Brian was active in his community. He was a member of the Amnicon Volunteer Fire Department and volunteered at the Barnes VFW for their Chicken Flipping fundraiser weekends. He also was very involved in his children’s sporting activities.

Brian was an avid outdoorsman and an amateur lumberjack who always referred to his little corner of the world as God’s Country. He loved deer hunting, working with his hands, and gardening in his vegetable garden. Brian’s many nieces and nephews will always remember him as their “favorite uncle” thanks to his frequent M&M bribes.

Brian will be dearly missed by his children, Nolan Tokar, Jacob (Jessica) Tokar, and Rose Tokar; sisters Becky (Eric) Stuart and Diane (Jim) Petrich; brother Joe Tokar; and many nieces, nephews, and close cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Lou, and grandparents, Peter and Hannah Botten, and John and Rose Tokar.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, 1111 Belknap Street, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant. Burial will be in the Bennett Cemetery at a later date.
