Bruno Stanley Vabalaitis of Superior passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 with his family beside him. Bruno was born in Cicero, IL to Stanley and Ruth Vabalaitis on March 29, 1951. On September 8, 1984 Bruno married Sandi Kaiser. They celebrated 32 and a half years of marriage. He always said of her that he’d “met the right one” and that “there’s a bull inside her…” Soon little Bruno Vabalaitis was born, quickly followed by Arlene Vabalaitis.
Bruno served in the US Army from 1969 – 1972, including a 17 month combat tour in Vietnam. Afterwards he worked as a millwright and then as a sanitation engineer for Waste Management. His grandson Liam was born May 23, 2012 on little Bruno’s birthday. Bruno would brag about all the new things his grandson was doing, including his sense of humor he inherited from his Papa. How Bruno loved Liam’s smile! Bruno also enjoyed intellectual conversations with both his friends and strangers. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan, and enjoyed fishing and golfing.
Bruno was preceded in death by his parents and by his son, Bruno Ronald Stanley Vabalaitis, on May 16, 2008.
Bruno will be missed every second by his wife Sandi, his daughter Arlene and his grandson Liam, who loved him so deeply. He also will be missed by his brother Tony (Heather) and many, many, many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law (yes, he knew he was marrying into Sandi’s family of 13 siblings!) and special friends Randy Cole and Connie Austin.
In any situation Bruno would say, “It’s all good!” and “Later, love you, bye!”
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, continuing to the 12:00 PM Celebration of Life Service with Rev. Sara Lund officiating. A lunch reception will follow at the Keyport Lounge, 1900 Belknap St, Superior.
