Carl W. Anderson, 89, longtime area resident, died Friday, December 6, 2019 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior, WI, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
He was born in Minneapolis, MN, October 23, 1930, the son of Carl and Ethel (Gleason) Anderson.
Carl served his country honorably in the United States Air Force.
He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Conner, on November 10, 1956, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage before his passing.
He graduated from Central High School in Superior and went on to further his education, earning his certificate in carpentry from the Superior Vocational School. He worked as a union carpenter for many years, and served as the Business Representative for the Carpenters Local. He worked as a Carpenter Instructor and was promoted to be the Apprenticeship Specialist Coordinator at WITI for many years before his retirement in 1984. He also owned and operated a Restaurant and Donut Shop.
Carl was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Superior, and the VFW. He served on the Superior School Board for twenty-one years; on the Superior Labor Temple Board of Directors; he served as past president of the Douglas County Development Association for twenty-eight years, the Youth Amateur Athletic Organization, and the Metropolitan Development Association; he was the Business Manager for the Superior Hoop Club, and coached Little League Baseball in Superior for ten years.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Anderson, Superior, WI; daughters, Wendy (Rodney) Brown, Billings, MT, Terri (Tom) Bagwell, Superior, WI, Vickie (Jon) Lintula, South Range, WI; and Laurie (Paul) Voigt, iron River, WI; son, Randy (Gina Elliott) Anderson, El Cajon, CA; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and grandsons, Luke and Jacob.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 12, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 4315 East 3 rd Street, Superior, and will continue until the 12:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Inna Pothireddy and Rev. Fr. Dean Buttrick will concelebrate the Mass.
Military Honors will be accorded at the church by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
Pallbearers for the Mass will be Carl’s grandsons, Thad, Josh, Mitch, and Jaan Lintula, and Rodney and Tim Brown. His sons-in-law, Paul Voigt, Jon Lintula, Tom Bagwell, and Rod Brown will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
