Carl L. Johnson

Carl L. Johnson, 90, lifelong Superior resident, died Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Villa Marina, Superior WI.

He was born on June 12, 1931, the son of Carl O. and Rose (Dumas) Johnson.

Carl graduated in 1950 from the former Central High School in Superior.  He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps.  Carl was a combat veteran with the 1 ^st Marine Division serving in North and South Korea. He married the love of his life, Gloria Sonby on April 17, 1953, and they celebrated 68 years of marriage prior to her passing on September 20, 2021. Carl was the owner and operator of Harbor Garage for many years.  Carl and Gloria loved to travel, especially to Hawaii.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Johnson, Superior, WI; two brothers, Jim (Diane) Johnson, New Brighton, MN and Robert (Susan) Johnson, Vero Beach, Fl; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and longtime close personal friends, Dick and Barb Karlon.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gloria Johnson; son, Todd Johnson and sister Jean Davis.

Per the families wishes, no public services will be held. Military honors will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carl’s memory to the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Essentia Health Cancer Center, Villa Marina, and the Essentia Health Hospice Nurses for the wonderful care provided to Carl.
