Carol Ann Smith, 83, former resident of Port Wing, WI, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Eckstein Hospice Center in Scottsdale, AZ.
She was born in Minneapolis, MN, December 27, 1940, the daughter of John J. and Ruth A. (Madison) Larson.
Carol graduated from South Shore High School in Port Wing.
After high school, Carol started her career in nursing dedicating her time to the care of others at the VA Hospital in the twin cities before relocating to Middle River Health and Rehabilitation in Hawthorne, WI, where she worked for over twenty years. After retiring from the nursing field, Carol continued her career in human services working at the Douglas County Courthouse for over twenty years, where she worked in both the child support office and as the clerk of courts before her retirement.
Carol also dedicated her time to caring for others working as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the former Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hawthorne, WI, for over twenty years, and served as a board member with the United States Selective Service System.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Polson; sons, Tim (Sue) Smith, and Shannon (Flo) Smith; grandchildren, Richard Pfankuch, Michael Pfankuch, Thaddeus Smith, Mitchell Smith, Armando Gutierrez, and Adrian Gutierrez; great-grandchildren, Desi McFaggan, Dalaney Webber, Luke Lannon, Dante McCarroll, Desiree McCarroll, Haily Lannon, Andi Pfankuch, Mickenzie Pfankuch, Johnny Pfankuch, Vicki Pfankuch, Tyson Smith, Sig Smith, Ayden Gutierrez, Axel Gutierrez, Aubrey Gutierrez, and Amyia Gutierrez.
She is preceded in death by her sisters, June Larson and Bette Hanson, brothers, John, Bill, and Charlie Larson, and her parents.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior, and will continue until the 12:00 PM Memorial Service with Gary Banker officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Port Wing.
Carols grandchildren will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.
