Carter Robert Nelson, 81, of Hermantown Minnesota, peacefully passed away on August 7 th 2021. Carter was born in Duluth MN, to Albert and Sigrid Nelson. Through his brief battle with ALS he found comfort in music and dancing along with being surrounded by family and friends.
A 1958 graduate of Denfeld High School, he loved being part of the high school band and very proud of his roots in West Duluth. Carter served 6 years in the US Air Force and finished his military career with the US Army Reserves. Carter was an avid musician and played drums in a local band, “The Continentals” in Duluth and the surrounding area.
Carter enjoyed going to the casino to tempt his luck. He and his wife loved to attend concerts, listen to the bands, and dance. Carter also enjoyed a good deal and often would buy and sell with the best of them. It was always a surprise as to what might be in the garage next. Carter owned many businesses that would allow him to be social with the public, from small restaurants to lounges, to even owning/operating his own trucking business. Throughout his life, Carter also worked at Superwood, Peterson Brothers, Duluth News Tribune, Radisson, managed Bay Point Apartments and Essentia Health in Security where he met the love of his life, Sheri Jackson. Carter worked at Hermantown Liquor during the previous 18 years, retiring in 2020 upon the closure of the business.
On October 14
th
, 2000, Carter married Sheri Jackson of Poplar WI. They would go on to spend 20 wonderful years together.
