Catherine Mary Strycharski

Catherine M. (Star) Strycharske, 71, of Superior, WI, passed away June 7, 2025, after a long illness. She was born to Frank and Sylvia (Griffin) Strycharske on June 29, 1953 in Milwaukee, WI, the second of seven children. The family moved to Washburn, WI where Star attended Washburn High School, graduating in 1971. She then moved to Superior to attend the University of Wisconsin-Superior and pursue a degree in Fine Arts. She was familiar to Superior shoppers from her work at Prange’s/Younkers in the Mariner Mall, where she worked in the Housewares Department and performed magic with gift-wrap. She also worked at Monson Trucking, AMSOIL, and the 2010 Census.

She was quick-witted, outspoken and fiercely loyal, especially to family. She enjoyed mystery novels, classical music and Motown and never met a cheesecake she did not love. Catherine was active in community theater as a member of the Port Town Players. She enjoyed watching church league softball and loved to shoot pool.

Catherine is survived by her partner, David Polaski; their son Griffin Strycharske; and Dave’s son, Rick Bierd; brothers: Mike (Vicky) Strycharske and nieces Kat and Kristin Bledsoe; Mark (Dara) Strycharske and nieces and nephews Maria, Carl (Alicia), Dan, Rachel (Brandon Cassaboon) and Jennifer; John (Dhani) Strycharske and niece Bobbi Kneeland; sisters: Jane (Jim) Sigfrids; Mary (Duncan Parker) Strycharske; and Max (Georgia Griffin) Strycharske and nephew Pete (Ally); as well as several great-nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her ex-husband Dennis Konkel.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of Twin Ports Health Services ACU unit for the wonderful care they offered Catherine during her stay there.

A Celebration of Life for Catherine will be held from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at Billings Park Civic Center, 3903 N 18th Street in Superior.
