Charles (Bill) William Rehnstrand, 98, of Gordon, WI, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Superior, WI. He was born October 1, 1916 in Superior to Charles and Esther Rehnstrand. In 1942, he married Katherine (Polglase) and they shared 63 happy years together. Bill was a World War II veteran who worked many years for the State of Wisconsin, until eventually retiring in 1978 to his lake home in Gordon, WI.
During his retirement, he spent much of his time hunting, fishing, gardening and hosting many fish fry dinners for family and friends. He was a proud grandpa who found great joy in spending time in his early years of retirement with his three grandchildren and his later years with his five great-grandchildren. He relished in teaching them the joys and beauty that nature provides. Those who knew him would often hear him expressing pride in the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As an avid Badger fan, he spent many, many nights cheering on his favorite basketball and football teams, even if it meant staying up past his bedtime to finish watching the game.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. and Esther Rehnstrand, his loving and devoted wife Katherine, and youngest son, Michael Paul.
He is survived by his son, William Rehnstrand of Bloomington, MN, and daughter, Marcia (Rick) Barry of Wascott, WI; grandchildren Peter (Tammy) Barry of Plymouth, MN, Stacey (Dale) Foster of Hermantown, MN, and Benjamin (Michelle) Barry of Kenosha, WI; great-grandchildren Madeline and Sophia Foster and Ethan, Ashley, and Hailey Barry.
A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Wascott Volunteer Fire Department or The Memorials Fund, Superior Scholarship Foundation.
The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements. To leave an online condolence or to sign the guestbook, please visit www.downs-lesage.com.
