Charles G. Evans

Charles G. Evans, 88, Superior, died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Golden Living Center of Superior. He was born on August 22, 1924 in Superior.

He served overseas during World War II in England, France and Germany as a MP and paratrooper.

He also was a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus and the Superior Police Auxiliary.


Charles retired from the University of Wisconsin-Superior from the grounds department. He also drove taxi cab, worked at the hard board plant and the former Farmers Union Grain Elevator. He also was a crossing guard for the Superior School District.

He is survived by his seven children. His sons Robert, Charles and Jeffrey, all of Superior; his daughters, Donna (Bud) Brand, Linda Fry, both of Superior, Carol (Patrick) Bornholdt, Solon Springs, Patti (David) Moe, Phoenix, AZ; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren with one on the way and many nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 1993; his parents, Charles E. and Victoria (LaJoie) Evans; his sisters, Fay, Sis, Gloria, Janice and a brother, Russell.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM and will continue until the 6:00 PM Funeral Service on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Ave, with Janette Gil de Lamadrid, officiating.

Burial will be in Veteran’s Memorial Park at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.

Honorary pallbearers for the service will be the Superior Auxiliary Police.
