Charles F. Tyykila

March 18, 1939 — February 16, 2023

Charles “Chuck” F. Tyykila, 83, longtime area resident, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023, in Duluth, MN, with his loving family by his side. He was born on March 18, 1939, in Maple, WI, the son of Fred and Ellen (Kuusala) Tyykila. His birth mother Ellen, passed away soon after he was born. Fred married Ailie (Wisti) Tyykila who became Chuck's loving mom.

He was born a stubborn Finn, defying the odds as a three-pound preemie, and he remained stubborn up until the very end!

Charles graduated from Northwestern High School, in Maple, WI, class of 1957. He joined the United States Airforce and served his country honorably as a civil engineer first class from 1962 to 1966. He then went on to further his education, becoming an apprentice in sheet metal work.

In 1962 he married the love of his life Carol Pittsley. Together they raised four children and celebrated 60 years together before his passing.

Chucks need to wander took him and his family all over the world. He lived in Wisconsin, Minnesota, California, Florida, and Texas. His work with the Sheet Metal Workers Local 10, which he loved, brought him to Russia, Yemen, Germany, and Wake Island.

He was a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church in South Range, WI. After his retirement from sheet metal, he took pride in running his lawn mowing business and found joy in being silly and making others, especially the kids, laugh. Above all Charles was a family man, a devoted husband, and a loving father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who know him.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Carol; daughters Cheryl (Vernon) Jordan, Corsicana, TX, Lee Ann (Scott) Hendricks, Midlothian, TX, and Heather (Buddy) Harvick, Lake Nebagamon, WI; son Scott Tyykila, Lake Nebagamon; twelve grandchildren, Jamie (Judd) Ellison, Mt. Calm, TX, Amber Jordan, Corsicana, Malori and Maci Hendricks, Glenn Heights, TX, Masyn Hendricks, Midlothian, TX, Tyler (Noemi Olvera) Warren, Lake Nebagamon, Sam and Chloe Harvick, Lake Nebagamon, Tara (Josh) Shearman, Superior, Trenton (Tateum Sowers) Tyykila, Superior, Troi Tyykila, Lake Nebagamon, and Tanner Tyykila, Scanlon, MN; great-grandchildren Avery, Maddox, Gunner, Emma, Oliver, and Noah; sisters June (Robert) Finsland, Superior, and Barbara Jones, Groves, TX; and his brother Robert “Bob” Tyykila, Streetman, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ailie, and his grandson Jackson Charles Harvick.

Bong American Legion Post 435 Honor Guard.

Burial will be in the Iron River City Cemetery.
