Clarence Heikkila

Clarence Heikkila, 83, Superior, died in his home on Monday, March 25, 2013.

He was born on July 23, 1929 in Oulu, WI to William and Lillian (Suni) Heikkila , where he lived most of his life before moving to Superior.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the International Longshoreman’s Association Local 1366 and worked many years at the Duluth/Superior ports. He was a member of the Iron River Area Foundation.

Clarence married Louise Johnson on November 7, 1959 and celebrated fifty-three years of marriage.

He was a wonderful man who loved life, people and animals. Clarence enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt, fish, work in the woods, garden, tend his lawn and fire up the sauna. He always had a desire to work with wood and his carpentry skills turned to woodcarving projects after he retired. He was one of the founding members of the Northwoods Carving Club in Iron River. He was very proud of his carvings and eager to share his knowledge and talents with others. He will be missed dearly by countless friends and family.

In addition to his wife Louise, Clarence is survived by three daughters, Suzie (Ray) Dean, North Branch, MN, Lynn (Mike) Kastern, Spooner, WI, Kari (Troy) Amorde, South Range; three grandchildren, Kara Kastern, Christopher Dean and Alyssa Dean; one brother, Oliver Heikkila, Oulu; many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Clarence is also survived by his faithful canine companion, Rocky, who was at his side until the end.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arnie “Albert” Heikkila.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 12 Noon Funeral Service on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church, Poplar with Pastor Greg Gullicksrud, officiating.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
