Clarence R. “Roscoe” Simons, 82, South Range, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born on March 17, 1930 in St. Paul, MN to Clarence Rudolph and Florence (Berlin) Simons.
He served in the United States Navy for two years and re-enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for twenty years, retiring as a Staff Sargent.
He was employed for Tyson Sea Foods in West Duluth as a first class chief licensed engineer. He also owned and operated Roscoe Refrigeration.
He was a member of the Thomas F. Stein VFW Post #1091. He loved hunting and fishing especially moose hunting with his sons in Canada.
He enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a stock car racer and was known as “Roscoe the Rascal”. He also loved to visit his son in California.
Clarence is survived by four daughters, Cherry (John) Hanna, Poplar, WI, Becky (Dave) O’Brien, Cloquet, MN, Sandy Jo (Tony) Pison, Hawthorne, WI, Casey (Dan) Huray, Solon Springs, WI; four sons, Robert (Judy) Simons, Valley Center, CA, Randy (Becky) Simons, Hawthorne, WI, Brian (Jeni) Simons, Cloquet, MN, Andy Simons, Superior; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Douglas (Shirley) Simons, Cushing, WI; one sister, Carol Tollefsrud, Blaine, MN and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl; his second wife, Valoice; his parents; one great-grandson, Wyatt Hanna and a sister, Phyllis Holmes.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Funeral Service on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Whispering Pines Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Tom Lindberg, officiating.
Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hawthorne, WI where military honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.
Pallbearers for the service will be Cory Pison, Vance Simons, Robert Simons, Randy Simons, Brian Simons, Andy Simons, Ross Simons and Daniel Simons.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Clarence’s name to the Faith United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 1531 Hughitt Ave., Superior.
