Dale W. Vreeland, 85, lifelong Superior resident, died peacefully in his home, surround by his family, on his birthday, April 13, 2013, following a hard fought and courageous battle with leukemia.
He was born in Superior to Ralph and Myrtle (Munson) Vreeland.
He married Madelyn Petron on July 19, 1949 in Superior and celebrated sixty-three years of marriage.
Dale was employed as an insurance agent for Metropolitan Insurance Company and Prudential Insurance Company for many years.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Long Lake Property Owner’s Association. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, especially on the Brule River; he also loved to hunt and go berry picking with his wife Madelyn.
He loved spending time at the cabin on Long Lake in Iron River, WI with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife Madelyn, Dale is survived by three sons, Gary (Jean) Vreeland, Coon Rapids, MN, Kenneth (Rita) Vreeland, Minneapolis, MN; Gregg (Kris Bronson) Vreeland, Hugo, MN, three daughters, Sharon (Thomas) Trianoski, Iron River, WI, Mary Beth Albertz, New York, Patrice “Patty” (Steve Yeske) Schraufnagel, Centerville, MN; nine grandchildren, Lexy, Blake, Michael (Kristin), Shelly (Chris), Dale (Jennifer), Sarah (Isaiah), Brooke, Ashley and Austin; three great-grandchildren, Gage, Gavin and Philip; one sister, Jane Whittaker and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marlys Gunski.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and will continue until the 12 Noon Memorial Mass on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski, as celebrant.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Aker, Norman Tout, Robert “Bob” Pollock and Fr. John Schak, S.J.
