Daniel “Dan” Flahaven, 64, died surrounded by his family and friends, on Friday, June 22, 2012 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.
He was born on September 29, 1947 in Superior to Patrick and Alamae (Kaiser) Flahaven.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Dan spent many years in Colorado and moved back to Superior about ten years ago. He liked to dance, he was an avid Denver Broncos fan and he loved animals.
He had been employed as a welder years ago in Duluth before moving to Colorado.
While in Colorado he was employed at the Westminster Water Plant as an engineer. After moving back to Superior he worked at two different nursing homes in Duluth as a maintenance worker and then went to work for the Duluth Transit Authority as a bus driver from which he retired from in 2009.
He was a member of the Duluth VFW and he was a major supporter of the Animal Rescue Federation in Superior.
Dan is survived by two sons, Mark Flahaven and Jeremy Flahaven, both of Superior; his mother, Alamae Flahaven, Superior; one sister, Katherine (Bob) Kaye, Afton, MN; one brother, John (Bonnie) Flahaven, Menomonie, WI; three grandchildren, Kaylie, Summer and Tanner and many Veteran service friends and friends from Twin Ports Dance.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service on Monday, July 9, 2012 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home. Pastor John Talcott of Oil of Joy Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Veteran’s Memorial Park at Greenwood Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Dan’s name to the Animal Rescue Federation, 2225 Hill Ave., Superior, WI 54880.
