Daniel William O'Hara

Daniel W. O’Hara, 77, better known to his friends as “Flair” died on October 22, 2025 as a result of a car accident. Dan was born in Superior on September 14, 1948.

He spent his childhood in Superior, WI, Grand Rapids, MN and the Amnicon River Valley. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1966, then attended UWS, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and the state ranked swim team.

He graduated in 1970 and immediately was #1 in the new draft lottery. He served in the US Army as a neuropsychiatric tech. He ended his army career in Cam Rahn Bay, Viet Nam, where he worked at the Drug Treatment Center.

Upon his return home, he attended UWS, getting his master’s degree in School Psychology and also served as an assistant swim coach until his graduation. He started his career at CESA #1 out of Ashland, then came to the Duluth area working at Wreshall and Carlton school districts as a school psychologist. He also coached cross country running and skiing. He was still working as a realtor for North Point Realty at the time of his death.

Dan was very active most of his life until AFIB made him slow down. He started hang-gliding in the 70’s and was a member of the Skyline Skydogs. He also spent 10+ summers commercial salmon fishing on a friend’s boat in Alaska. He also ran the Paavo Nurmi and several Grandma’s marathons. Once winter hit he was on cross country skis. He skied 30+ Birkebeiners, the Pepsi Challenge as a founder and any other race he could find.

He married Linda Stein (Cookie) in 1971. They lived in the Duluth/Superior area most of their marriage where they enjoyed the wildlife in their yards and always had pet cats.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, brother, Kevin O’Hara (Joanne); sisters-in-law, Cindy Davies (Chuck), and Sue Jarvis, plus nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Eloyce and Harold Hanson; father, Patrick O’Hara; and his mother and father-in-law, Phyllis and Ed Stein.

Dan will be deeply missed by a large number of friends and family.

A Celebration of Life will be held November 8, 2025 from 1:00 ~ 4:00 PM at the Lakeside Community Center, 3196 Poplar River Road, off of Highway 13 in Maple, WI.
