Daniel W. Sullivan passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 11, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth MN.
Dan was born July 2, 1953 in Superior to William C. and Agnes (LaVoy) Sullivan. He graduated from Solon Springs High School in 1971. Dan proudly served his country in the United States Navy before a medical issue forced him to retire early.
Dan was united in marriage with Celia Van Dyke on June 5, 1982 and would have celebrated 33 years of marriage this year.
Dan retired from the United States Post Office after many years of service. A dedicated “union guy” he served as president of the Postal Union for a number of years.
Dan was a loving & loyal husband, father, brother & friend, but his greatest joy in life was watching his granddaughter, Kairi. He will continue watching over her from above.
In addition to his wife Celia, Dan is survived by daughter, Louann Sullivan, Greendale, WI; sons William R. Sullivan, Superior and Austin J. Sullivan, Superior; granddaughter, Kairi Sullivan; sister, Linda (Brian) Denston, South Range; brothers, Michael J. (Jeanette) Sullivan, James E. (Ruth) Smith, Rice Lake, WI; step-mother, Lucille Sullivan, Superior; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his faithful canine companion, Toby.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, James E. Smith Sr.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and will continue until the 1:00 PM Memorial Service on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski, of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, officiating.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Duluth Honor Guard.
Burial will be at a later date at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.
