Danny Lee Johnson

March 12, 1947 — November 5, 2012

Danny Lee Johnson, 65, Pike Lake, died of A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig’s disease), after a courageous battle, on Monday, November 5, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.

He was born on March 12, 1947 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Harold and Emily (Maloney) Johnson. He grew up in Detroit Lakes and moved to Duluth at age 11.

He was a 1965 graduate of Duluth Central High School. He served with the 109th Minnesota National Guard.

Danny was the owner and operator of G & T Excavating for thirty nine years. Prior to excavating he was the manager of Firestone Tires in Duluth.

He married Claudia Anderson on August 20, 1966 in Duluth, MN and celebrated forty-six years of marriage.

He was a member of L.A.’s Restaurant Breakfast Club at Pike Lake. He enjoyed his work, NASCAR, corvettes and loved his family more than anything.

Danny is survived by his wife Claudia; children, Scott (Lori) Johnson of Munger, Debra (Tyler) Walsh of Spooner, and Danise (Thomas) Hanson of Midway; his mother, Emily Flewell, Detroit Lakes, MN; three brothers, Jerry Johnson, Forest Lake, MN, Jeff (Cindy) Meckola, Charlotte, NC and Steven (Jenny) Meckola, Indian Trail, NC; grandchildren, Gavin and Hannah Johnson, Gibson and Keegan Walsh and Samantha Hanson; in-laws, Kathy Gould, Duayne (Cindy) Anderson and Larry (Jean) Anderson and several loving nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Harold and sister-in-law, Bobbi Anderson.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church, 5454 Miller Trunk Highway, Hermantown and continue until the 11:00 AM memorial service with Pastor Brad Shannon of New Life Covenant Church officiating.

Burial will be in the Canosia Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be ALL of his close friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Amber Erickson and her assistant Lisa Katzmarek, and Danny’s hospice nurse, Marie Flaten.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Danny’s name to the A.L.S. Association or to the Solvay Hospice House.
