Darren Wayne Harvey

Darren Wayne Harvey, 44, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth from injuries sustained in an ATV accident in rural Douglas County.

He was born on September 24, 1965, to Don and Bonnie Harvey, in Des Plaines, Illinois. Shortly after, Darren and his family moved to the village of Lake Nebagamon, WI. Darren was not only the local town sheriff for all members of his community; he also became the heart and soul of it with his love of life and people.

Darren attended school in the Maple School District. He was the first student with Downs Syndrome to graduate from Northwestern High School, with a standing ovation from the entire community. After graduation, Darren went to work for Don Harvey Concrete. He could be seen on any job site joking with all, and stealing sandwiches when he got the chance.
Darren had many passions in life. First and foremost were all the people in his life. He loved everybody, and gave hugs and waves hello any chance he got. His gentle heart and pure spirit touched everybody he met. Darren’s smile was completely contagious, and he had the ability to make each person he knew feel great when they saw him.

Darren could be seen driving around on his four wheeler, swimming, or golfing with his best buddy Logan. He also loved snowmobiling, bowling, and dancing any chance he got. He was a pit crew member for car 84 racing.

Darren is survived by his parents, Don and Bonnie Harvey, brother Don ( Joni) Harvey Jr., sister Becky (Lance) Moreau, all of Lake Nebagamon, WI, nieces Danielle (Neil) Fisher, Oshkosh, WI., Lindsey Harvey, Oshkosh, WI, and Heather Harvey, Eau Claire, WI, nephews Logan and Evan Moreau both of Lake Nebagamon, WI., as well as lots of friends and family.

Darren’s family wishes to thank the entire community for the love, compassion, and support they have given Darren throughout his life. Everybody tells us how lucky Darren was; but really, we were the lucky ones to have had him in our family.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the 12:00 PM funeral service on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Nebagamon, WI with Pastor Darrell Kyle officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Ormston, Bill Harvey, Tim Harvey, Jeff Cottew, Dean Yrjanainen, Scott Judnick, Walter Moss and Joe Engstrom. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Kaszynski, Leo Yrjanainen, Logan Moreau, Lance Moreau and Cole Cottew.
