It is with sadness that the family of Darryl Kortesma, age 82, announce his peaceful passing on February 28, 2024, in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He is survived by his loving wife of 61years, Karen, his devoted daughters Shelly, Joy, Anita, Suzann, and 6 wonderful grandchildren.
Born in 1941 to Eino and Audina Kortesma, Darryl grew up in the Iron River Wisconsin area where he loved spending time hunting and fishing on the Brule River. He also enjoyed drag racing cars, with his favorite being his 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air, winning many trophies along the way. However, his biggest trophy was winning the heart of the love of his life, Karen. Together they cruised the back roads in Northern Wisconsin, always looking for the next adventure.
In 1963, Darryl and Karen were married and moved to Janesville, Wisconsin where he spent 30 years in skilled trades as a welder for General Motors. He had a special talent for welding and took great pride in his work. The more challenging the project, the more he enjoyed it. He also liked talking with the “guys at work” about investing and the stock market.
In retirement, Darryl enjoyed life to its fullest with his wife Karen in the mountains of Colorado for over 30 years where they enjoyed skiing, hiking, and loving the outdoors. When not outside, he was often found around the house fixing and building things.
Life was always busy for him and his wife as they traveled frequently, usually with a cat in tow, between Wisconsin and Colorado.
Darryl will be remembered in his cherished cowboy hat and boots as his family says their final goodbyes during a private ceremony on March 9, 2024. He will be laid to rest at the Iron River City Cemetery.
Gone, but not forgotten, may you rest in peace.
