David A. Anttila

David A. Anttila, 91, Brule, WI resident, died Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Oaks Assisted Living Center in Washburn, WI. He was born on April 29, 1925 in Maple, WI to John and Pauline (Saari) Anttila. He was the youngest of twelve children.

David left Maple Corner High School in 10th grade to care for his sick father. In 2001, he received his diploma from Northwestern High School. David served his country in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 in the Construction Battalion building airfields, serving in New Guinea and Philippines. He was the head custodian for Northwestern High School retiring after twenty-eight years.

He married Vivian Johnson on August 11, 1951 and they celebrated forty-one years of marriage before her passing in 1992.

David loved gardening and was proud of his Finnish heritage.

He is preceded in death by his parents and ten brothers and sisters and daughter-in-law Denise.

David is survived by three sons, James Anttila, Ashland, WI Jerry (Joyce) Anttila, Castle Rock, CO and Tom (Kandy) Anttila, Coon Rapids, MN; seven grandchildren, Bill, Jason, Matt, Alyssa, Jeff, Dan and Christine; five great-grandchildren, Marccus, Aaili, Viviann, Amelia and Evelyn; one brother, Eino Anttila and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior and continue until the 12:30 PM memorial service with Pastor Sarah Kerkes of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church officiating.

Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.

Burial will be in Everrest Cemetery in Waino, WI.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Oaks Assisted Living Center in Washburn for the wonderful care they offered David during his stay.
