David H. Godden, 70, lifelong resident of Duluth, MN passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 5, 2022, with his wife and son by his side after a long medical battle.
David was born January 24, 1952, to Henry and Alice (Dandanell) Godden of Duluth, MN. He attended Duluth Central High School and Lake Superior Technical College.
Dave was a Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes winter crew from 1968 to 1998.
Dave met his wife Joetta in 1969 and they were married September 19, 1970. They would go on to have two boys and several businesses throughout his life where he and his wife would work side by side. Dave and his family had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the United States and Hawaii.
Dave was an avid gardener and was lovingly known to his family and friends as “The Sod Father.” He loved to do canning and was a great cook, and he especially loved to throw a party or bonfire. He built three homes and was one of the hardest workers you would ever know, a “Jack of all Trades” for sure.
Fishing was one of his most joyous pastimes; his boat was his pride and joy. He was a generous man and was always willing to lend you anything, offer a helping hand, give you a job or money. He loved his family and his friends and was proud to be your friend.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joetta; son, Brian (Ann) Godden, of Auburn, Washington; grandson, Jacob; granddaughter, Tessa Godden; sisters, Susan Buresh and Nancy (Pete) Remer; brother, Rick (Sue) Godden; brothers and sisters-in-law, Snooky Herman, Jerome Landowski, Julie Abrahamson, Jannice (John) Horton, Jon (Donna) Landowski, Jody Landowski; and many nieces and nephews and very special friends.
