David M. Martineau

October 4, 1949 — November 28, 2013

David Michael Martineau, age 64, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at U.W. Hospital, Madison. He was born October 4, 1949 in Deer River, Minnesota the son of Philip and Norene (Marx) Martineau.

He graduated from high school in Superior in 1967 where his family had moved earlier.

He attended Madison Area Technical College and completed Chef’s Training Course. David had a passion for food and loved hosting both professionally and personally. He was a chef at the Edgewater Hotel for many years, changing to dining room management and eventually including managing the bar and summertime pier. In later years he was the “in house” chef at the Hy Vee Grocery Store on East Washington. He shared his passion for food with others, teaching evening cooking classes.

David loved to decorate with his beautiful collections, flowers and plants.

He was an unwavering friend to many; always very kind, with a great outlook and a lot of fun.


David is survived by his mother, Norene Martineau of Superior; his uncle, William J. Martineau of Grand Rapids, MM and many cousins.


He was preceded in death by his father, Philip on December 26, 2012.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 5101 Schofield Street, Monona, Wisconsin with Father John Silva presiding.


A Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM until the 1:30 PM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday December 14, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Superior, Wisconsin with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant.

Inurnment will be at St. Francis Cemetery in the spring of 2014.
