David John Olson, 79, lifelong resident of Superior, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in his home. He was born on November 26, 1945, to Gethart and Alma (Pabst) Olson.
He graduated from the former East High School in Superior in the class of 1963. David then attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior, earning his degree in history education. He worked for SWL&P for many years, retiring in 2004.
He was a United States Navy Veteran and served his time in the Mediterranean.
David was united in marriage to the love of his life, Gretchen Kelly, on December 2, 1972. Together they raised three wonderful children and celebrated fifty-two years together.
He was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Superior and the IBEW Local 31 Labor Union.
He enjoyed deer hunting, camping, and in his younger years, he was an avid bowler. He loved going to his grandchildren's activities. David was also a lover of animals, especially his grand dogs. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gretchen; children Kevin (Lynn) Olson, South Range, WI, Darcy (Brad) Moen, Foxboro, WI, and Brian (Kathy) Olson, Superior, WI; grandchildren Andrew Olson, Jeffrey Olson, Meara Moen, Aaron Moen, Paige Olson, and Summer Olson; sister Marcia Lally, South St. Paul, MN; and brother-in-law John Vaski, Superior. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap Street in Superior, and will continue until the Memorial Service at 11:30 AM with Pastor Darrell Kyle officiating.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in David's name to: The Humane Society of Douglas County, 138 Moccasin Mike Road in Superior; St. Francis Food Shelf; or St. Vincent de Paul, 1416 Cumming Avenue in Superior.
