David "Smitty" L. Smith

David “Smitty” L. Smith, 57, Bennett, WI resident, died Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN from complications from a brain aneurysm. He was born on December 23, 1959 in Superior, WI to Donald and Darlene (Sleva) Smith, Sr.

He graduated from Superior Senior High School and from W.I.T.C. in the refrigeration program. David was employed as security/maintenance for the Mariner Mall for many years. He married Donette Priem on March 13, 1993 in Wentworth, WI and they recently celebrated twenty-four years of marriage.
David loved the outdoors and enjoyed golfing and fishing. He also loved woodworking, playing harmonica and spending time with his family. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

David is survived by his wife, Donette; five children, Michael (Amy White) Moe, Duluth, MN, Randi Derick, South Range, WI, Gary Moe, Superior, WI, Pete Stathopoylos and Colleen Stathopoylos, both of Duluth, MN; twelve grandchildren, Jordan, Logan, Wyatt, Liam, Tieghan, Gabriel, Aaron, Piper, Necco, Autumn, Tyler and Joshuah; his mother, Darlene Carlson, step-father, Kevin Brousseau; one sister, Brenda Carlson; one brother, Gordon (Shannon) Carlson; sister-in-law, Becky Sturtevant and several aunts, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his step-son William Derick, brother Donald Earl Smith, Jr. and father Donald Earl Smith, Sr.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Hawthorne Assembly of God Church, 6366 County Road E, Hawthorne, WI and continue until the 11:00 AM memorial service with Pastor Joe Dokken officiating.
