David C. St. John

February 10, 1950 — March 21, 2020

David C. St. John, 70, of Superior, passed away on March 21 st , 2020, after struggling with Alzheimer’s disease. David was born to Leona (Johnsen) and Roy St. John, in Superior, on Friday, February 10, 1950.

He married his loving wife Evelyn (Mihalek) on June 20, 1981, in Ashland, WI. David absolutely loved the outdoors and boy could he tell you some stories! He loved fishing and hunting until this awful disease took over. His favorite time of year was during deer season. He loved being in the woods hunting with family and friends. He especially liked heading to the hunting shack after his hunts to be with his friends, where they would exchange their stories into the night. He cherished those friendships and all the rabbit hunts, the grouse hunts, the stories, and just all-around good times with good people.

David served his country as a US Marine during 1969-1972 and then came back to Superior where he lived out the rest of his life.

He worked for Douglas County General Assistance Agency (part of social services) from March 1972-April 1976 – he started as a case worker and, in 1975, was appointed head of the agency as the Administrator of the Agency.

David was hired by the Superior Police Department on April 4, 1976. He first started with SPD as a patrolman, and later became detective (Narcotics & Homicide) where he continued to serve for many years before retiring as detective on August 1, 2000. In 2001 he was awarded the Wisconsin Association of Homicide Investigators President’s Award. In addition, he did some work for the medical examiner’s office and was a dispatcher for the St. Croix Tribal Police Department in Webster, WI. He was also a security officer for the Duluth International Airport and for the Port Authority in Superior.

David is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his four daughters, Sheila (David) Miller, of Switzerland, Tracy (Dennis) Tollers – Maple, Kimberly (Jason) Seguin – Proctor, Sharon (Matt) Noland – Cloquet, his grandchildren, Zach (Samantha) Yepma, Shawna Yepma, Kaelamae (CJ) Smith, Jaxson and Eli Seguin, Victoria Upman, Grant and Gracelynn Noland; his great-grandchildren, Cade and Eris Yepma; siblings, Sharron (Willy Becker) St. John, and Richard St. John; and many nieces and nephews.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Leona, and brothers, Ed and Michael St. John.

Our family would like to take this time to thank the caring staff at Lakewood Reflections located in Staples, MN for their compassion and excellent care of David during the last couple months. Not sure where we would have been without all of you. You are angels!
